The Aviators is the City of Norfolk's award-winning competitive robotics team that serves Norview High School and the community. Established in 2006, The Aviators participates in the FIRST Robotics Competition and FIRST Tech Challenge. These competitions strive to challenge students with limited time and resources to design, build, and program robots to play a difficult field game with like-minded competitors across the globe. These competitions also focus on inspiring greater levels of respect and honor for STEM, as well as encouraging more of today’s youth to become scientists, engineers, and technologists.
We are committed to increasing the number of partners compared to what we have now. While we have connections solely for mentoring, financial, or outreach reasons, we strive to have a mutually beneficial relationship between us and our partners. As well as building connections, we seek to improve our existing infrastructure in order to increase our capabilities as a team.
With our new members and our existing team, we aim to continue to challenge ourselves and others to grow as better problem solvers to think critically about our team, school, and community. Additionally, we will go above and beyond by seeking to enhance our skills and increase our competitiveness against other teams.
Following our goals of building new connections and critically challenging ourselves, we will increase our efforts to follow the objectives of FIRST: to inspire the next generations towards a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

Constructed for 2026 REBUILT, our robot, "Spam-asaurus Rex"---named in contribution to our mechanical captain: Lee---features a custom, laser-cut metal-plated triple shooting dispenser for the game's hub modules. The newly added swerve drive allows for cleaner, faster driving on the field in order to achieve more points.
Constructed for 2025 REEFSCAPE, our robot, "EVANTUALLY"---named after our mechanical captain: Evan---features a polycarbonate coral intake that flips up at a 35-degree angle to deposit the coral onto the reef. Additionally, it features a single stage elevator mechanism that allows the robot to reach L2 and L3 of the reef. This robot earned our team the Sustainability Award.
